GENESIS

AAVAA DINGI is an initiative to empower and develop the underprivileged and economically challenged youths and differently abled people through workshops fine arts and it is one of the sustainable development projects for DCF 2025 vision.

Right from 2017 when DCF Voice started working with British Council & Paragon Music & Dance, Scotland DCF, the vision for inclusivity and equality accelerated with a passion to create a platform where people from diverse backgrounds could celebrate their differences through the universal languages of music and dance. Inspired by the idea of inclusivity and success of PROXIMUS, DCF Voice conceived the idea of AAVAA DINGI - an international music and dance festival that would welcome performers and audiences of all abilities, ethnicities, and cultures.

THE LAUNCH

Finally, after months of meticulous planning and coordination, AAVAA DINGI - the International Inclusive Music and Dance Festival came to life. Launched inclusively with a lighting of Lamp by Dr. Jane Prasad, Registrar; Shri. AnuradhaSriram, Playback Singer; Dr. Alfred Benjamin, DCF Voice Director; Ms. Kendriya, Special Educator in India’s No.1 University’s, Open Air Theatre - IIT MADRAS, which stands for the value of inclusion and cultural diversity, the festival featured an eclectic lineup of performances, including traditional music and dance forms from various countries, contemporary fusion acts, and specially curated pieces that highlighted the talents of artists with disabilities.

THEME AND FOCUS OF AD 2024

AAVAA DINGI as an International Inclusive Music and Dance Festival had four different components like Inclusive Music, Inclusive Dance, Inclusive Awards and Inclusive Visual Arts.

Inclusive Music

Inclusive music is not just about making music accessible to everyone; it's about recognizing the inherent value of diversity and actively working to create spaces where everyone's voices can be heard and celebrated. By embracing principles of inclusivity, the music community can become stronger, more vibrant, and more representative of the rich tapestry of human experience. It encompasses a wide range of efforts aimed at breaking down barriers to participation in music and fostering a sense of belonging for everyone involved.

Ziskakan Band – It was amazing to see how they incorporate the diverse sounds of Africa, Asia, and Europe into their music, creating a unique fusion. Through their singing and poetry, Ziskakan carries a whole set of Reunion Island values and brought the beauty of Creole poetry to life. I believe that their performance was the most unforgettable experience.

Voice for Unity the DCF Band – A multi-talented inclusive band where people with multiple disabilities collaborating with the usual musicians created a magical experience. Along with some well-known cover they also delivered the originals.

AFRO Band – African Musicians and Dancers were performing and adding their flavor to the festival. They played at the end but that was exuberant and more vibrant.

Differently abled artists like Vaikom Vijayalakshmi and Jothikalai also brought their favorite classical songs which they have sung in the films.

More importantly 100+ Special children were performing Inclusive music for the first time in that lovely big stage is the heart of AAVAA DINGI. This is a jest of the Guinness performance that we are going to attempt in Inclusive music with 1000+ audiences.

Inclusive dance

It was not a usual Bharatanatyam. DCF Voice tried for the first time to bring a inclusive one. A girl with autism was trained and collaborated with 4 dancers to scintillate and mesmerize the crowd. It was a fusion of eastern and western music spoken through Bharatanatyam.

Malaikambam – Ancient acrobatic dance piece was also a part of the event which was by differently abled dancers and artists. 13 differently abled artists performed showing their incredible talents. The crowd owed a standing ovation for their extra-ordinary performance.

Inclusive awards

25+ awards in various categories like education, sports, media, music, dance, special parenting, life time achievement etc. were celebrated.

People excelled beyond their limitations and people those who contributed/advocated for inclusivity are felicitated on the special occasion. The unsung heroes who were not recognized any other mainstream media or platform were chosen to honour in AAVAADINGI

Inclusive visual arts

The story of inclusivity was depicted through mime. The life of Eilidth a special dancer from Scotland and Jothi a special musician from India, were played as mime and brought the audience into tears. Followed by that the casting of PROXIMUS film was spellbound.

Eight emerging disabled artists in Scotland, Mexico, Italy and India have created original dance and music pieces digitally with fellow artists in each of the four countries. 4 disabled dancers in Scotland and Italy have created original dance pieces separately and collaboratively for film.

And 4 disabled musicians in Mexico and India have created original music for the dance pieces. Four mentors have helped and guided the emerging artists through the creative process enabling the disabled dancers and musicians to work beyond boundaries. Ms. Jothi and Mr. Prem Bhagawan as special musicians worked in this incredible project.

 Guest Performances

*Singer Anuradha Sriram inaugurated the event by lighting the candle and she sang few songs from her hits collection. She sang to the audience choices too. She is great human being and chose to support the cause in a great way. She stands as an exemplary person among the celebrities.

*Karthik Devaraj a TV fame keyboardist and musician joined AAVAADINGI as a guest of honor.

Giving away awards through them were a great inspiration to all our musicians and dancers and other achievers.

 PRE – EVENT COMPETITIONS

DCF had organized three different kinds of competitions for the students to build the value of inclusivity among the next generation. All the participants were given free pass to see the festival too. The team had planned for Essay Writing and Painting competition for the school students and for college students ADZAP was conducted. Rajeshwari. V won the first prize in Painting competition and Tejesree from KV school, IIT won the first prize in Essay competition. Loyola College (B.com) won the ADZAP competition. Nearly more than 300 students participated in all these competitions.

In addition to these competitions, consider incorporating elements of inclusivity into the judging criteria. By highlighting and celebrating inclusivity through these competitions, you can foster greater awareness, understanding, and engagement within your community.

Conclusion

AAVAA DINGI 2024 was more than just an event; it was a journey of discovery, connection, and transformation. As attendees dispersed into the night, their hearts and minds were filled with the echoes of melodies past and the promise of harmonies yet to come. Until next year, when the music will once again beckon, weaving its enchanting spell on all who dare to listen.

I was on the way to pick chandru from school. Pappu immediately identified Jyothi in this poster. She screamed with a shout of joy. I took a photo when we were waiting in a signal.

From a Special Parent

Finally, the overall experience of attending this event made the day more memorable and the heart was filled with joy. I could witness all the special children were enjoying the festival which was the ultimate success of this event. The flowing testimonies of the special children’s parents and general audience is overwhelming and fuels for the next year edition of AAVAA DINGI 3.0
