Dr. Kamakoti, Director
Kamakoti Veezhinathan received his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Computer Science and
Engineering from IIT Madras. He joined the faculty of IIT Madras in 2001 and took over
He specializes in the area of Computer Architecture, Information Security and VLSI
Design. He heads the Microprocessor Development Program and the Information
Security Education and Awareness Program at IIT Madras funded by the Ministry of
Electronics and Information Technology, Government of India. He is member of the
National Security Advisory Board. He was also the Chairman of the Artificial Intelligence
At IIT Madras he has served as the Chairman, JEE and as Associate Dean, Industrial
Consultancy and Sponsored Research.
He has over 150 publications in International Journals and Conferences, guided many
research scholars for their PhD and Master of Science (By research) program. He has
coordinated and successfully delivered close to 50 projects from Industry and
Government R&D establishments. He serves in the Technology committees of the
Dr. Kamakoti is the recipient of DRDO Academic Excellence Award, Indian Electronics
and Semiconductor Association Techno Visionary Award, 'Abdul Kalam Technology
Innovation National Fellowship', ACCS Life-time Achievement Award, IBM Faculty
Award, VASVIK Industrial Research award and Sir JC Bose lifetime achievement award.
Dr. Jane Prasad, Registrar IITM
Dr. Jane Prasad got her B.Sc in Zoology from Women’s Christian College, Chennai and her M.Sc
and Ph.D in Biochemistry from University of Madras. She belongs to the 1998 Batch of IP&TAFS
which is an Accounts and Finance service recruited through the Civil Services Exam of UPSC.
Dr. Prasad started her career as District Social Welfare Officer in the Nilgris district for Govt. of Tamil
Nadu. After joining Govt. of India services in 2000, she worked as Assistant Chief Accounts Officer
in Department of Telecom and BSNL for a few years. After that she served as Deputy Controller and
Joint Controller in Department of Telecom, GoI for a period of around 7 years. During her stint, she
was able to streamline and improve several of the existing processes and procedures and bring
more efficiency to the Department.
Subsequently, she has worked as Additional Controller of Defence Accounts under the Ministry of
Defence on deputation and as Director of Accounts (Postal) in Department of Posts. At Defence,
she handled huge budgets and functioned as a Financial Advisor to Army Formations.
Dr. Prasad joined as Registrar of IIT Madras in April 2018. Here she is heading various divisions of
Administration including Recruitment & Establishment, Finance & Accounts, Estate, Insurance,
Stores & Purchase, Internal Audit, Communication and Public Relations, and so on. In a short span
of time at IIT Madras, she has introduced several reforms in the work process and made the entire
system more efficient and transparent.
Her areas of expertise include Finance, Accounts, Budgeting and Internal Audit, besides Human
Resource Management and Recruitment. Dr. Prasad likes to read books, travel and trek during her
spare time.
